This week we have been making thumbprint art. We studied our thumbs carefully and started drawing. Some people have arches or swirls, while others have waves. We wrote things about us and displayed them on the classroom wall! Come and check them out!

Also this week we started out two week dance programme. The Jive and a Hip Hip routine. Everyone is getting into it and learning all the awesome moves!

Week 8 Blog Post- *MATARIKI*

Greetings, Hello, Welcome to Room 3’s week 8 blog post

No reira, tena koutou, tena koutou, tena tatou katoa.

This week in Room 3 we have been celebrating the seven stars of Matariki (The Seven Sisters, Maori New Year).
Matariki is the time of year when 7 stars are visible to us and it often means that ‘a new year has started’ or ‘crops will be easier to grow and fish will be easier to catch’.

For maths we have enlarged the seven stars of matariki into a bigger image using Y and X axis on a grid.

In reading, some groups in our class have been practicing and performing Matariki plays, such as ‘Maui and the Giant Ika’ (Maui and the Giant Fish).

For art we have been creating collage art to go with our writing. Our writing is Maori based and it is called a Mihi meaning greetings. To make our colleges we have used magazines, glue, dye and pastel. Our collage art is based on our family history or a part of our life and are currently either still being finished or drying on the art rack.

Room 3's Got Talent

Lights, camera, ACTION !!! Room 3 had their assembly today and it was insanely funny. Together in the space of about 2 weeks Room 3 put on a mind-blowing, popular assembly. It was based on the popular TV show Britain's Got Talent. It included judges, hosts, performances and even golden buzzers. It was a really cool idea and an awesome assembly to be part of. I think all of Room 3 enjoyed it!

Grandparents Day

Last Friday 9th of June 2017 we had Grandparents Day. We all had an awesome time with the grandparents. The students who had their grandparents come in were able to show their work off and take them on tours of the school. All the grandparents had an amazing time at the concert that featured the Kapa Haka crew, Band and Choir. Apparently the performances were AMAZING! Hopefully all the grandparents liked coming because I know we all liked seeing them.

Sandwich WHAT!!! Obstacle WHAT!!!

ONE simple and easy instruction: Create a recipe for a marmite and chip sandwich... Everyone went away to draft their recipes- Easy Peasy they all thought.

Turned out they had to make their buddies recipe word for word... LITERALLY word for word!!! Here is a clip below of a sandwich which may have had some key instructions missing...

This week students have been creating obstacle courses in their writing groups. The groups aim is to create a course with accurate instructions so the other two groups can go through it blindfolded as the instructions are read out to them. Here are the groups in action building their courses.
